4th Armoured Brigade (Australia) : ウィキペディア英語版 | 4th Armoured Brigade (Australia)
The Australian 4th Armoured Brigade was an armoured formation established as part of the Australian Army during the Second World War. Formed in January 1943 to provide armoured support for Australian Army units operating in the South West Pacific Area. The brigade was never intended to serve as a single formation, rather its role was to provide a pool of armoured units from which units and sub-units could be provided to augment infantry forces. It was also responsible for developing doctrine and specialised armoured vehicles for armoured warfare in tropical terrain. In keeping with the brigade's task of providing armoured units to other formations, its constituent armoured regiments were organised into self-supporting regimental groups and the brigade did not possess the reconnaissance, infantry and other supporting elements which were common in Second World War-era armoured brigades. It was disbanded in March 1946. ==Formation== The brigade was raised in January 1943 from a number of previously existing armoured units, some of which had been assigned to other brigades, or had operated independently. Upon formation, its role was to provide armoured support for Australian Army units operating in the South West Pacific Area, but it was never intended for the brigade to deploy as a single formation, rather it was to provide force-assigned armoured elements to augment deployed infantry brigades in various campaigns throughout the Pacific. The brigade was tasked with developing tactics, techniques and procedures for the employment of armoured vehicles in the jungle.
